About Me

I am Alejandro Vique, a psychologist with a degree from the Universidad Metropolitana of Venezuela and a Master’s in Psychology from the University of Barcelona, Spain. I have extensive experience in psychotherapy, addressing a variety of issues such as anxiety, grief, trauma, depression, addictions, support for the LGBTQ+ community, transgenerational trauma, systemic abuse, and suicidal ideation.

For over six years, I have had the privilege of living and working in communities in the Canadian Arctic. As a psychotherapist and social work supporter for the community, I have gained valuable experience managing complex realities and environments. This unique experience has deeply enriched my professional approach, enabling me to provide clients with comprehensive and personalized support tailored to their specific needs. The challenges and learning opportunities in the Arctic have been transformative, giving me a deeper understanding of human resilience and adaptability.

I believe in people’s potential to achieve well-being. We all have the capacity to grow, heal, and find balance in our lives. If you’d like to learn more about my professional background, please visit my social media profiles or contact me.

I offer therapy based on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). DBT is a form of cognitive-behavioural therapy that focuses on teaching skills to manage emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and develop strategies to cope with stress and self-destructive behaviours. It is particularly effective in treating disorders such as depression, anxiety, personality disorders, and behavioural issues.

In life, we go through situations and stages that create personal conflicts. Sometimes, these events can trigger crises or grief that are hard to face on our own. Therapy can be incredibly helpful during these moments, offering new tools to address issues like addictions, identity crises, low self-esteem, work or family conflicts, and complicated grief. Therapy will help you learn and apply new strategies to integrate these experiences in a healthy way.

In the first session, I will explain the characteristics of the sessions, and we will discuss the reason for your consultation and your expectations. Together, we will define your therapeutic goals and agree to begin a process of personal growth and freedom. Each session will include tasks or activities that you can work on at home between sessions.

Therapy sessions last one hour. The frequency of sessions is up to you, based on your needs. I may suggest increasing or decreasing the frequency depending on my observations and your progress.

Therapy sessions are completely confidential, adhering to the guidelines of the professional body to which I belong. They take place in a closed and private space, ensuring the privacy of your information at all times. For online sessions, I recommend finding a quiet space and using headphones to maintain confidentiality.

Yes, as a psychotherapist, I have had the privilege of working closely with individuals from the LGBTQ+ community at various stages of their lives and self-discovery processes. Throughout my career, I have supported individuals facing a wide range of unique challenges, such as:

  • Exploring and accepting gender identity and sexual orientation.
  • Processing experiences of discrimination, rejection, or violence.
  • Addressing internal conflicts related to self-acceptance or integrating their identity into different environments (family, work, society).
  • Supporting significant transitions, such as the gender affirmation process.
  • Managing mental health issues related to stress, anxiety, and depression exacerbated by experiences of exclusion.
  • Building support networks and resilience in challenging contexts.

My approach is to create a safe, nonjudgmental, and empathetic space where each person can feel heard, understood, and supported throughout their journey. I recognize that the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community are diverse and complex, and I tailor my interventions to meet the specific needs of each individual.

You can make payments via PayPal or through other methods we can discuss directly.

You have the option to cancel the session up to 24 hours in advance. If you are unable to attend and do not cancel in time, the session fee will still be charged.
